What AI likely cannot do in the next couple of years ?

Directly access another mind

  • Can’t know what you’re experiencing from the inside
  • Always inferring, never directly knowing

Create genuine novelty from nothing

  • Everything AI does is recombination of training data in some sense
  • Can’t transcend its input information fundamentally

Access information that doesn’t exist yet

  • Can’t know tomorrow’s lottery numbers or unplanned human decisions
  • Can’t predict creative choices people haven’t made

Achieve Real-Time General Human-Level Intelligence (AGI)

No AGI in the near term—AI won’t:

  • Think like a human
  • Understand context perfectly
  • Have common sense at human level
  • Self-improve autonomously

Replace High-Level Software Engineers

AI code assistants will get better, but they cannot:

  • Architect large-scale systems independently
  • Debug complex multi-layer issues
  • Consider trade-offs (security, scalability, cost)
  • Understand product requirements deeply
  • Guarantee bug-free, production-level code

Achieve Perfect Understanding of Emotions

AI cannot:

  • Truly “feel” emotions
  • Accurately detect subtle feelings
  • Offer therapy that replaces humans
  • Form meaningful personal bonds

Replace Human-to-Human Trust-Based Interactions

AI cannot replace:

  • Friendships
  • Mentorship
  • Parenting
  • Leadership
  • Community building

Note : Some things AI might do in the future depend entirely on having enough data. Since AI is completely data-dependent, once it gets the right amount of data, it may be able to do things that currently seem impossible
